A fun 007 Bond themed evening was held in Knysna on 28 September 2007. Dressed to thrill, all the guests looked fantastic, while "James Bond" made a cool entrance in a black MG car with 007 license plates.

Toastmasters Division D held a fundraising dinner at Kelvin Grove on 27 February 2007. Christof Appel, the District 74 speech contest winner and Southern African representative at the international contest in Washington, DC, was the guest speaker. Lucky draws and a raffle with lots of great prizes helped raise over R5 000 for the Trust.

The annual gambling Rat Race evening was held at Pirates Rugby Club in Johannesburg on 31 March 2006. This event is held to raise funds for the St Giles home for mentally and physically handicapped children, and in memory of John Whiffen, through the Trust. The evening consisted of various gambling options, including Black Jack and Roulette, which were run by friends in a great atmosphere of jesting, competition and hilarity. Of particular interest was the ladies only table, where the most laughter and screaming emanated from.

An auction was conducted by the educated voice of Nico Kritsiotis (aka SuperSport presenter on Teletrack), our MC for the past two years. This was followed by the ‘running of the rats’. There were three races, with Renault winning twice and McLaren once. The gambling ended around midnight and, after the winnings were cashed in for tickets for the raffle, Spencer the DJ turned up the music and everyone partied well into the night.

Patrons were particularly charitable this year, with many winnings having been given back.

Craig and Lois Strachan, friends of the Trust, hosted 18 guests at their home in October 2006 for an International Dinner fundraising evening. Obviously driven by temporary insanity, nonetheless they cooked a wonderful five course meal and raised R2,200 for the Trust by charging R250 per person. Says Craig, “I still think that we must have been crazy to host a dinner for so many people, but in the end we had a blast!”
