First of all, on behalf of Jann and I, please allow me to wish you all a very Happy New Year with a hope that you enjoy a healthy, happy and prosperous 2008.

Secondly, I trust you have enjoyed the Christmas period and feasted well, but not too well as you have committed to cycling 108 kms in the Cape Argus for Team Whiff in 2008.

Please find attached two documents related to this activity for your information and use. You should feel free to use either/both as you see fit to help you with your fundraising activity for the Trust.

Allow me to remind you of the agreement between you as a Team Whiff cyclist and the Trust. As a Team Whiff cyclist the Trust will provide the following for you: -

  1. A Team Whiff cycling vest (For those of you who are first time riders with Team Whiff, please let Mike Alman know your vest size)
  2. Payment of your Cape Argus 2008 registration fee
  3. Pre cycle ride Pasta Carb-Up meal (location to be advised nearer the time)
  4. Hospitality Tent refreshments at the end of the ride
  5. Post ride Braai to share adventures and successes (Held in a villa in Milnerton that Mike, Anny, Quin & Deleen, along with Jann and Geoff, are using for the weekend).

In exchange, we ask each Team Whiff cyclist to commit to raising a minimum of R2000 for the Trust. For the rider or supporter who raises the most we are offering a prize of 1 week's holiday in the Sambonani Timeshare complex

You will see from the attached marketing brochure that we are also now able to take donations on line. If you have any queries relating to your Cape Argus registration, please contact Mike Alman If you have any queries relating to Trust donations, please contact Keith Bowen.

Introducing the 2008 Team Print E-mail
Thursday, 31 January 2008 14:33

Team Whiff, the team of cyclists that participate in the Cape Argus Cycle Tour every year, was formed by family and friends, some with no cycling experience and others who were previously John's cycling partners. Team Whiff was the perfect ‘vehicle’ for people who missed John to actively get involved with the Trust and raise money for it, while doing something that John loved doing.

In March 2005, the year after John died, Team Whiff entered its first 108 km Argus. Each subsequent year has seen a Team Whiff participate in the Cape Argus Cycle: while each team has had mixed abilities, and both able-bodied and disabled members, they have all been driven by a common goal - to complete the ride and enjoy the experience whilst raising money for a worthy cause.

Due to the nature of the Cape Argus Cycle Tour – it’s national and international appeal, the incredible scenery, the professional and well-run approach to the day, and the sheer fun, excitement and challenge of the event - Team Whiff has since expanded its members to include newcomers. While these members may never have met John, they certainly have empathy for his vision, his energy and his approach to life, which is evident in their involvement.

Team Whiff riders are supported by a dedicated team who work hard in the background to ensure that the cyclists - and the Trust - achieve our goals. Without them the heroes peddling the tar would have a much harder task.

The Cape Argus Cycle Tour has now become an annual - and highly enjoyable - fundraising event for the Trust.

Riding for Team Whiff

When riding as a member of Team Whiff you’ll benefit from a wide range of goodies and extras:
